Lenny Underwood - Keys

Lenny Underwood; born and raised in the cultural capital of New York City, is a music pioneer whose stage and studio experiences read more like a journey of whimsy than an actual career. From his first classical piano recital at age six at the world-renowned Carnegie Hall to his music directorship of "An Evening with Harry Belafonte and Friends" on PBS-TV to, hosting one of the biggest celebrity-filled "Open Mic" jam sessions in New York's Greenwich Village and later, accompanying pop diva Jennifer Lopez in "Her First Live Concert Ever", Mr. Underwood continues to blaze a trail of exceptional diversity.

Crediting his late grandmother for nurturing his early music appreciation, Lenny received his first real piano by age four and he's been at it ever since. A few regional chart hits by the early 1980's with his own r&b group Unlimited Touch introduced him to the New York recording scene as a keyboard player in demand. Odyssey, Chaka Khan, Hot Tuna, M ary J. Blige, Common, Amy Winehouse, and a host of others can be found on his Discography.

Touring with several acts as a sideman and later, as Music Director for Harry Belafonte, Mr. Underwood traveled the world and returned to New York; where he fronted his own group, The "Slam Clinic Band" during a residence at the famous "Cafe Wha" for nights of vintage r&b soul classics, celebrity sing-a-longs and, spontaneous audience outbursts of dancing in the aisles. Later on Broadway (in Atlanta, GA to be exact) Lenny played synthesizer while understudying Tony-award winning conductor, Ms. Linda Twine for the 25th anniversary production of

"Dreamgirls" in which the original diva, Ms. Jennifer Holiday returned to star and executive produce. Now a bi-vocational pastor and devoted family man of 4 children and 8 grandchildren, Lenny still manages to compose, produce, arrange, and perform as the Spirit leads.
